Lessons to be learnt from Samson are:
- Do not waste your potential. Samson was given supernatural powers by God, and he wasted them womanising, playing riddles and spending a lot of time plotting and executing revenge.
- Revenge is not good thing. Gandhi said, "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.” Also, another saying is, “If you set out on revenge, first dig two graves.” Samson sought revenge five times and in the end to get revenge from the Philistines for blinding him he killed himself along with over three thousand Philistines.
- God will use sinners for his own purpose. Even though Samson broke Nazarite rules by touching corpses, God gave Samson strength to get out of being bound up and kill a thousand men with the jawbone of a donkey. God rewarded Samson by giving him water when he asked for it after the battle.
- God will always be there for us if we ask him to be. At Samson’s lowest point in his life when he was blind, he prayed to God, ”Sovereign Lord, remember me. Please God, strengthen me once more, and let me with one blow get revenge on the Philistines for my two eyes.” God gave him strength and he pushed two pillars of the temple with all his might and the temple came crashing down on the Philistine rulers and about 3,000 people.
These lessons can be applied today quite easily;
- Do not make bad decisions and waste your time on things that are not important which get you further away from your goals.
- Try to forgive and forget. Karma will take care of things.
- Everyone sins, but God still has a purpose for you. Pray to God for forgiveness.
- Pray to God to be there for you, especially when things get tough.
